The Walls Don’t Get the Final Word

But no wall is powerful enough to stop God from transforming the man standing behind it.

Acts 16:25–26

“And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.”

Paul and Silas knew what it meant to be behind walls. They had been beaten, placed in the inner prison and fastened in stocks. Their circumstances were real. Their pain was real. Their confinement was real.

Yet at midnight, something unexpected happened.

They prayed.

They sang.

And the other prisoners listened.

Men, one of the greatest dangers of being behind walls—whether physical, emotional or psychological—is beginning to believe that the walls have the final word over your life.

They don’t.

For the man in prison, your movement may be restricted. Your choices may have consequences that cannot immediately be changed. There may be doors you cannot open yourself. But those walls do not have authority over your ability to pray, grow, learn, repent, worship and become a different man.

Paul and Silas did not wait until the prison doors opened before they started praising God. Their circumstances had not changed, but their relationship with God had not changed either.

Men outside prison need this truth too. You may feel trapped in grief, disappointment, financial pressure, family difficulty or a season that seems to have no exit. It is easy to tell yourself, “When this changes, then I will live again.”

But what if God wants to begin something in you before He changes anything around you?

Notice something else: “the prisoners heard them.” Their response to confinement became a witness to somebody else.

Your story may do the same.

The man you become behind the wall may eventually help another man behind his.

Men, don’t postpone transformation until your circumstances improve. Pray where you are. Grow where you are. Worship where you are. Let God work in you where you are.

Some walls may remain for a season. But no wall is powerful enough to stop God from transforming the man standing behind it. The walls don’t get the final word.

God bless you, Men of God. Continue in your roar.
