My mother, a devoted Christian, raised me in the church. She made sure I grew up with a strong foundation in God and in the fear of the Lord, and I owe that foundation to her. I was baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ at the age of nine and received the gift of the Holy Spirit at the age of thirteen.
However, growing up, I didn’t always feel free to do everything I wanted. After my mother passed away, I found myself wanting to live life on my own terms and make my own choices. In my early twenties, I began to be exposed to many worldly things. I started drinking, smoking, and partying—I was living a life of the world.
I became deeply addicted to smoking; it became a part of me. At that time, I felt like I couldn’t do anything without it. The friends I kept were all smokers, and some were even involved in dealing and preparing marijuana. I was completely surrounded by that lifestyle, and it felt like the enemy had me.
Even though the Lord was speaking to me through visions and His Word, I ignored Him and continued living that way.
But everything changed on May 10, 2013—Mother’s Day in Jamaica. My friends and I were preparing for one of our regular dance parties, which we hosted every Sunday. That night, a well-known beer company sponsored the event, and we were giving out a lot of free alcohol. Little did I know that it would be my last night in that environment.
While I was handing out drinks, I heard the voice of the Lord say to me clearly:
“What are you doing? You are giving somebody else the glory!”
Immediately, I left the party, which was happening close to my home. When I stepped into my room, I saw my Bible on the dresser. It was closed, but when I opened it, it fell open at Psalm 24:
“The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”
At that moment, I had a plastic bag full of marijuana in my room. I looked at it and said, “I’m done with you—no more.” I tied the bag tightly and threw it in the garbage.
From that day, everything changed.
I truly thank God for the transformation in my life. I am no longer addicted—I have been drug-free for many years now. All glory to my Father, Jesus Christ. He has transformed my life, and I know He can transform yours too. I have tried Him, and it works. It is hard to come into contact with Jesus and remain the same.
May the Lord bless you.
